Grandma Go Go

Sometimes when you are craving that travelling experience as I have been lately (and whingeing to you all about – I know) you should just go and get your lunch from a random place that has Christmas specials in March!

A fool-proof plan if ever I have heard one!

The moment I stood at the counter and the Chinese lady stared at me blankly without taking my order, I knew I had made the right choice.  As she looked from me, to another lady who also refused to serve me, my excitement grew.

When Grandma Go Go rushed past me wearing her floral dress, hat with fake flowers, her name tagged with the words Grandma Go Go scribbled on and her feet clad in Sketches my excitement was at an all time high.

A flurry of activity, a million blank stares and still no service – I was engulfed in a euphoric chaotic bliss.

So I conclude with this; sometimes a visit to your local chaotic non english speaking café in the middle of your english speaking town, or a trip to the local ethnic areas in your city are enough to cure the mini travel fix you require.

Order a meal from a menu you can’t read, try a delicacy you have never heard of before, mingle with the ethnic communities, and pretend you are in a different world.

Close your eyes for a moment and imagine you are travelling. If you are anything like me, and love the chaos that comes from travelling this may just get you through.
