STATUS SYMBOL (added 01.08.10)

Why is it one of the first questions most people ask when meeting someone for the first time is what do you do for a living?

I am sure that without meaning to;  the majority of us immediately formulate an impression of that person, based on their response.  It’s human nature, and while I hate it, as I said I am sure that even though we don’t mean to,  let’s be honest here – we all do it!

One of the things I love about travelling is that no one really cares about your profession, the first questions are where are your from?  How long have you been travelling for?  Where have you been and where are you going?

You meet people and form relationships based on the person you are at that moment, your status in life doesn’t matter, your choice of career is sometimes never mentioned and for all intents and purposes your chosen careers are all the same – Travellers.

Your impressions of that person are based on simple things, like laughing together, their passion for life, their stories and their lust for the very thing that has bought you together, travel and adventure.

Everyone wants to be loved and accepted, travelling cuts out the bullshit, people are stripped of their stature and simply become human and that is a beautiful thing, being able to connect with people on a real and wholesome level.

With pretences gone, it is amazing just how much you really get to know people in the travelling world.  Without the distractions of your daily life, you start to look inwards you listen to your heart and your soul, and you find yourself speaking freely about what you most want out of life.

To me, this is just one of the many things I love about travelling.
